# From the New York Times Travel Show in The Big Apple and the NTA Convention in New Orleans

In the travel news, after a five year absence, our airport is finally [getting a hotel](http://www.sacbee.com/news/local/transportation/article7999257.html); and [Uber and other ride share companies](http://www.sacbee.com/news/politics-government/capitol-alert/article8004855.html) are back in trouble with state regulators. We'll explain what the new twist is.

At the New York Times Travel Show, we annually bring you back interviews from lots of interesting people, and this year is no exception. First, we explore the growing segment of [medical tourism in Mexico](http://cmitm.com.mx/es/) (click on the flag on the upper right corner to translate to English), that is, people who are going to our southern neighbor for optional and some not so optional medical and dental treatments. Our first guest is Carlos Arceo, President of the Mexican Council for the Medical Tourism Industry.

Next from New York is Richard Arnold, Director of Fun at [Nova Tours](http://www.atlantictours.com/). Richard tells us all about some of the highlights of a visit to the Canadian provinces of [Nova Scotia](http://novascotiatourismagency.ca/), [Prince Edward Island](http://www.tourismpei.com/index.php3), [New Brunswick,](http://www.tourismnewbrunswick.ca/#) [Newfoundland and Labrador](http://www.newfoundlandlabrador.com/). He talks a little about the advantages of traveling as part of a group in remote places with few hotels and motels.

The second half of the show starts with Adam Rapp telling us all about his "Pick-Pocket Proof" Pants. Mark saw them in person at the NY Times Travel Show Friday and says they looked comfortable and even in tune with fashion. Tahiti and the over 100 sister islands of the South Pacific are closer than you think. Kristin Carlson of [Tahiti Tourism](http://www.tahiti-tourisme.com/) talks to us about this magical destination. Finally, Patti Culp of the Alabama Travel Council sat down with Mark to tell the story of a visit to her home state, from Civil Rights history to the beginnings of the space program in Huntsville and the spectacular white sand beaches of the [Alabama](http://alabama.travel/experience-alabama/beaches) Gulf Coast.
