Travel Guys Radio Show, Page 148

On the Sunday, May 17th, 2015 edition of The Travel Guys… Sunday on The Travel Guys our featured guest is Director of Sacramento International Airport, John Wheat. John is on hand to update our listeners on new service at the airport, and service that might be on the way. He will talk about the new way to pay for your parking, about why some airlines have changed terminals and even the new hotel, slated to open sometime next year.  There's also an update on the concession situation in Terminal A.  After listening to John, we can promise you will be a smarter traveler next time you visit the airport. Our second guest is Joshua Rubinstein from the Firefighters Burn Institute.  He joins us in the last segment of the show to talk about a special fund raiser to benefit the institute. Firefighters Burn Institute Flyer In the travel news, we tell you how you can get more legroom on Alaska (hint: it's going to cost you) and Delta's CEO has some bad news for those hoping baggage fees might someday go away.  We tell you why having more frequent flyers on the plane with you might be a benefit and in Saved the Best for Last, we share a letter from "one passenger to another."
On the Sunday, May 10th, 2015 edition of The Travel Guys… The Mother's Day edition of The Travel Guys is all about traveling with mom.  Call us and tell us about your favorite trip with your mom, answer a Travel Guys Trivia question and win a prize.  It's as easy as that. The travel news highlights the first scheduled flights to Cuba in more than 50 years and we discuss a study which shows airfares are actually 16% lower than they were 20 years ago (when adjusted for inflation). Tom has an interview with Mr. Motorhome, Lon Lundgren,  that lovers of the open road in their own vehicles will enjoy and Gwen Duncan's Deal of the Week features bargains for travel to Alaska.
On the Sunday, May 3rd, 2015 edition of The Travel Guys… This edition of The Travel Guys features a look at two new airlines in Sacramento.   Surf Air will begin flying in August, with a membership-only, scheduled service.  It's a unique business model. Our second featured new carrier is Seaport Airlines, a carrier that serves smaller communities with service to bigger ones.  Their initial Sacramento flights are two trips a day to Visalia, with fares starting at $39. Mark has the Travel News, takes a look at the winners and losers from last week's Freddie Awards in Atlanta and in the Saved a The Best For Last segment, the guys offer packing tips for their fellow male travelers. Perhaps a source of amusement for some...
On the Saturday, April 25th, 2015 edition of The Travel Guys… This week's edition of The Travel Guys features a guest appearance by Becky Repp of American Road Magazine. It's been a while since we've had Becky on, and we'll take time to update you on the magazine's current edition, which includes a short article on the historic Cal Neva Lode at Stateline, North Shore.  Becky will tell you how you can get a great deal on a subscription to a great "roadie" publication. In the Travel News, the US Government is about to tell some people on the no-fly list why they are there and if you fly Alaska Airlines, you can earn extra miles for doing something yourself at the airport....tagging your own bag.  Mark and Tom have details. On Friday evening, Lee Deverman and his wife were returning form an enjoyable week touring the state of Alabama.  When their connecting (United Airlines) plane from Mobile landed in Houston, the wheelchair assistance they had both requested was waiting.  But they never made their connection. 99-year old Mr. Deverman and his wife were left unttended after they were "handed off" from one wheelchair runner to another.  Except the "another" never came.  By the time someone noticed, it was too late. It's a story of horrible customer service.  Could it happen to you or your relatives?  The records suggest that it can.  So what can be done?  How did United handle the situation after the Devenman's missed their flight, and how did they get left behind when their tour director on board the plane notified the crew they weren't there and that they were in United's care.  The crew told the tour director to take his seat, closed the door to the aircraft and actually pushed back from the gate early, leaving two elderly passengers they had neglected inside the airport.  We sort out the facts and tell you how to avoid getting into the same situation.  And we have a few words for United Airlines... The We Saved The Best for Last segment has a heart-warming story about an airline paying tribute to a fallen warrior and his companion.  You can watch the video here.
