Travel Guys Radio Show, Page 154

On the Sunday, November 30th, 2014 edition of The Travel Guys… In the travel news, some major airports are suffering through the last day of Thanksgiving weekend with delays, but no serious weather systems are plaguing the air traffic system on this busy Sunday. Mark has an update. A Travel Roundtable is the highlight of this week's show. Gwen Duncan from Cordially Yours Travel joins Tom and Mark answer your travel questions or perhaps pose one to you. Every caller wins a prize on this, our first of two Travel Guys Christmas Shows. Two special sets of guests are on hand. First, the guys interview George and Mary Bailey of Bedford Falls. Everyone knows the Baileys of Bedford Falls. Seems the town has some trouble brewing and we'll talk to George and see if we can get to the bottom of it. After all, It's a Wonderful Life and the folks of Bedford Falls deserve a good Christmas. (George and Mary are actually part of the cast at Sacramento Theatre Company's holiday presentation of the popular classic). Finally, the show closes with an appearance by a singing quartet from the Sacramento Valley Chorus, on hand to promote a holiday event on December 7th.
On the Sunday, November 23rd, 2014 edition of The Travel Guys… In the news, as we predicted on the show a few short weeks ago, traveler-friendly perks at JetBlue are on their way out. No more first free bag and more seats on the planes, meaning less leg room, starting soon.  On the other side of the fence, Southwest says no changes planned to their "first two bags free" policy. We take you to Milwaukee, where Mark discovered a unique food tour.  It's called the Deer Hunter's Widow Weekend.  We'll tell what it's all about, along with beer and bakeries tours in the city of cheese heads! It's holiday travel time and we have an update on what's going on at the airport, plus tips for where to park during the Thanksgiving crush. Finally, we take you behind-the-scenes of a hopeful new travel show, American Travelers.  No film crews, no production team, just two folks making their way around the planet.  A fascinating look at a television show in the making.
On the Friday, November 14th, 2014 edition of The Travel Guys… On this week's edition of The Travel Guys, Tom and Mark are joined by Caroline Costello of Smartertravel.com.  She recently penned a column about how travelers who are savvy in the social media world can earn all kinds of bonuses, including points, miles and other peaks.  If you play the social media game, you could get a head start on your future travel, just be tweeting and posting in the right places. Gwen Duncan is along with the Deal of the Week.  Gwen has found a variety of holiday activities at Lake Tahoe, many of them free.  Connect to her web site for the complete list.  Mark, Gwen and Tom also discuss Mark's list of Five Rules to Make Airplane Travel More Pleasant for All.  Gwen shares some tips of her own, including a great idea about preparing the kids for travel. Finally, we take you to Hawaii, home of Bag Swag, a great new way to dress up (and secure) your luggage.
On the Sunday, November 9th, 2014 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, it appears the Hilton Honors frequent guest program may be the latest to have been hit by hackers.  We'll discuss what happened, what Hilton is doing and how you can protect yourself and your points and miles. Sacramento Bee and USA Today Travel Columnist and Consumer Advocate Christopher Elliott joins us to relate a story about how he and his family fell victim to some pretty smart thieves, and what he is doing to make sure it doesn't happen again.  If you travel, or are a Christmas shopper, we have some wisdom to help you (and your stuff) stay out of harm's way. The Sacramento Airport is always a busy place during the holiday travel season and today marks the first of a series of interviews with airport staff to help you be a smarter traveler at the airport over the next couple of months.  What's the best place to park at the airport when you have to leave your car for a few days or a couple of weeks?  Did you hear about the traffic snafus at the airport last week and will they continue this week?  We have all the answers and will continue to update you throughout the season. In our entertainment segment, two items are featured.  KVIE has a new gallery and there's a adult version of The Muppets you may want to check out in San Francisco. Puppet Up is the name of the show and the show's star Patrick Bristow is our guest to talk about what appears to be a laugh-filled evening at the Geary Theater.
