On the Saturday, April 27th, 2019 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, Expedia has struck new deals with suppliers, keeping hotels and air available on their platform. A lack of customs officers is causing problems at airports around the country. The problem: Many of the agents have been sent to the southern boarder by the president and there aren't replacements available. Lines at Atlanta's Hartsfield Airport have reached 2-3 hours on several occasions in the past two weeks. Check the list below for a cruise line which will take you to Game of Thrones sites, and there's a new museum in Japan... Reporter and Tour Director Clayton Whitehead joins us to tell listeners about two upcoming adventures: A Coast-to-Coast trip across Canada by rail, and a journey along the shores of the Mississippi River, stopping in places like The Field of Dreams and Mark Twain's home of Hannibal, MO. On the Sunday, April 14th edition of The Travel Guys.... In the Travel News, Mark talks about his trip to Disneyland.....er, Washington, DC this week, to lobby on behalf of the travel industry. Delta Airlines decides to reduce conflict over reclining seats with a simple solution...reduce the amount of recline for their seats. And American quietly introduces a new plane. You know, the one with 15 more seats stuffed into the same sized cabin. We have the stories, links are below. Last week, United Airlines announced they are dropping their award chart, basically floating the number of miles needed to get a free seats on their flights based on supply and demand. While this seems like it makes great business sense for the airline (Delta had previously done the same thing, expect American to follow quickly), it's terrible news for frequent flyers who like to snag those seats at reasonable mileage prices. United claims some routes, shorter routes at non-peak times, will go down in price. But there will be no cap, and seats to popular destinations at peak times are going to coast a LOT more points. And you will never know how many. A serious downgrade of their Mileage Plus program. Airbnb is under fire after a vacationing family found a live streaming camera in a Cork, Ireland home. It was disguised as a smoke alarm. The husband is an information technology security specialist and he found the camera. Airbnb has been slow to comment. Their rules prohibit any kind of hidden cameras for any reason. Recently a young South Carolina woman was found murdered after waiting for a ride share. In our Smarter Traveler segment, we talk about how to be safe when ride sharing. This woman may have met with foul play unrelated to her ride share, but knowing some basic tips will keep you safe and make it harder for your ride to go wrong. Two call in guests on the program - Matthew Felix wrote a book called Porcelain Travels, focusing on adventures involving porcelain...use your imagination.
