On the Sunday, December 2nd, 2018 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, Delta Air Lines has announced new service from Sacramento to Detroit. It begins in June. The westbound flight leaves Detroit at 7:55pm. The return flight is a red eye, arriving back in Detroit at 6am. Marriott Hotels confirmed a major data breach impacting millions of Starwood customers. The incident began four years ago. Marriott has just begun notifying impacted consumers. We’ll have an update next Sunday. It’s the time of the year for Mileage and Hotel Runs. What’s that you ask? It’s when frequent travelers create trips to make sure their “status” with an airline or hotel chain is preserved for the next year. On the Sunday, November 25th, 2018 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, United flight attendants are setting up picket lines on December 13th at major United hub airports, to protest the cutting of a flight attendant on some long haul flights and other work-condition related issues. Carnival Cruise Lines has announced a change to their on board smoking policy that is a bit draconian. In addition to the possible $500 fine, you could be put off at the next port of call with no refunds. That would include anyone in the offending passenger's cabin.

And Rome is issuing a handful of new urban regulations designed to take tourists from throwing things into or otherwise abusing the city's most popular tourist spots. Amy Travieso from the American Hotel and Hotel Association stops by to reinforce what we tell Travel Guys listeners all the time. Shop the third-party web sites, but buy directly from the travel provider whenever you can. Amy's statistics support that approach. We take a minute to promote a couple of local holiday events. Gwen Duncan has returned from a visit to Thailand and has a host of tips and ideas for traveling to that exotic land.
On the Sunday, November 11th, 2018 edition of The Travel Guys… In The Travel News, the Seattle Airport is beginning an experiment which allows 50 people each day to secure gate passes to meet or say goodbye to their loved ones at the gate. The new program is a trial, and after it ends on Dec. 14th, the airport will decide if the program is made permanent. The final episode of Parts Unknown with Anthony Bourdain airs Sunday the 11th on CNN. In it, Bourdain visits New York City's lower east side, an area where Bourdain had more than a few personal adventures back in the day. Mark shares the 3 most common mistakes people make when traveling to New York City in the Smarter Traveler segment. They are: 1) Thinking the subway is difficult and scary (it isn't); 2) Taking advice from your neighbor or friend who visited the city 10 years ago (things change fast in NYC); 3) Thinking you are going to see everything on one trip. Steve LaRosa is in with his latest edition of What's Goin' On in and around Sacramento. Steve has a special guest, Carly Starr, with us to promote the Road Trippin' Exhibit at the California Automobile Museum running now through February.
