On the Sunday, January 26th, 2014 edition of The Travel Guys… Our special guest today is Christopher Elliott, the Consumer Reporter whose column appears in the Travel section of each Sunday's Sacramento Bee.  Chris talks with us about those hated "resort fees" that are becoming so popular with hotels these days.  In an interesting twist, Chris explains why those fees may not even be going into the coffers of the resort, but directly into someone's wallet.   You'll want to hear his explanation and some hints on how to avoid fees which weren't disclosed in advance. In the Travel News, Mark tells us about Hotels on the Hudson for the Super Bowl and the national hotel chain which is the first to offer free wi-fi across their entire chain.  Listeners even get a chance to win a $100 American Express Gift Card by naming the Things you Should Do Before Settling into Your Hotel Room.
On the Sunday, January 19th, 2014 edition of The Travel Guys… Mark and Tom return to KFBK together for the first time since The Travel Guys went on hiatus in November of 2012. Get ready for a information-filled hour. Guests include Ed Perkins, our writer from SmarterTravel.com. Ed comments on a variety of topics, including the merger of American Airlines and US Airways. He's followed by Chris Galloway, one of our Road Reporters, who has just returned from Cuba. Chris has a fascinating story to share about a country most of us have never visited. Finally, Mark opines on the current state of affairs at Southwest Airlines. The airline which used to brag about always being on time now has the worst on time performance of any major carrier. Then there was the situation recently at Midway Airport, a Southwest hub, where 20 planes full of people were stuck on the tarmac for a rule-breaking four hours. A size able fine could be forthcoming. So where does Southwest go from here? Mark has some thoughts. Welcome back guys. Welcome back listeners.
