Delta Airlines decides to reduce conflict over reclining seats with a simple solution...reduce the amount of recline for their seats. And American quietly introduces a new plane. You know, the one with 15 more seats stuffed into the same sized cabin. We have the stories, links are below. Last week, United Airlines announced they are dropping their award chart, basically floating the number of miles needed to get a free seats on their flights based on supply and demand. While this seems like it makes great business sense for the airline (Delta had previously done the same thing, expect American to follow quickly), it's terrible news for frequent flyers who like to snag those seats at reasonable mileage prices. United claims some routes, shorter routes at non-peak times, will go down in price. But there will be no cap, and seats to popular destinations at peak times are going to coast a LOT more points. And you will never know how many. A serious downgrade of their Mileage Plus program. Airbnb is under fire after a vacationing family found a live streaming camera in a Cork, Ireland home. It was disguised as a smoke alarm. The husband is an information technology security specialist and he found the camera. Airbnb has been slow to comment. Their rules prohibit any kind of hidden cameras for any reason. Recently a young South Carolina woman was found murdered after waiting for a ride share. In our Smarter Traveler segment, we talk about how to be safe when ride sharing. This woman may have met with foul play unrelated to her ride share, but knowing some basic tips will keep you safe and make it harder for your ride to go wrong. rescue of nearly 500 people off the Viking Sky cruise ship off the coast of Norway Saturday and Sunday. 20 passengers were injured in the daring rescue after the ship lost power in extremely rough seas. The ship has now regained its engines and is heading to Nolde Harbor to disembark.
Some Las Vegas resorts are selectively reducing or eliminating resort fees to attract more business, and a nationwide fast food chain which specializes in chicken sandwiches has been banned from the San Antonio airport. In the Smarter Traveler segment, Mark talks about his own experience in having his email hacked this week, and how it impacted a number of his credit cards and frequent flyer accounts. He offers some preventative wisdom, including never use your email address as your user name for any account, and consider 2-step verification for your email and any major "points" accounts.
