On the Saturday, February 22nd, 2025 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, the airlines make their first effort to overturn one of Joe Biden’s consumer friendly rules; and are Canadians REALLY canceling their US travel plans? Seems to be some disagreement on that subject. One of the hottest topics in travel these days is the Apple AirTag. The device, which helps you locate lost luggage, is in the news again this week, as American becomes the last of the “big three” airlines to use the tags to help locate lost luggage. The Wall Street Journal has ranked America’s airlines, based on their 2024 performance. We have details on who’s on the top and who’s on the bottom - Delta and Allegiant appear to be the biggest winners. Fort Bragg, on the California Coast, is a great discovery for those who love funky places on the ocean. Today, we’ll talk to the general manger of the legendary Skunk Train, and add our own thoughts on one of California’s least known coastal getaway destinations.

On the Saturday, January 25th, 2025 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, Marriott is experimenting with letting people pass on housekeeping and save on their hotel rooms - but Mark says it's a trap, to let the hotel chain ultimately charge extra for housekeeping services. Plus, there's the story of the young man who tuned a grand piano on the concourse in Chicago's O'Hare Airport. Truly, it's one of the best travel stories ever (see link to You Tube video here). In our Smarter Traveler segment, Apple Air Tags are the subject. Maybe you already use them, or another brand like Tile Tags. If not, we suggest you should consider them. We talk about some of the many Internet travel scams, and some basic rules to follow to avoid being a victim. The crooks cast a wide net, but following a few basics can keep you out of harms way a lot of the time. Our guest star is Annie Fitzsimmons and her book is 100 Hotels of a Lifetime. It's published by National Geographic and it's really cool. Lots of incredible pictures. Would look good on a travelers coffee table.

On the Sunday, August 20th, 2023 edition of The Travel Guys… In The Travel News, tourists continue to make headlines - now it's two guys who climbed onto the Eiffel Tower drunk and passed out; and Las Vegas strip hotels are apparently dealing with an onslaught of bed bugs. They are incredibly difficult to get rid of once they find a home. Last week, Mark suggested you buy AirTags, and offered a link with what would have been an amazing price ($10 for 4). Except he didn't have the right link. They are a little more expensive than that. Like 8-9x as much. Oops. The correct link can be found on this page. A few weeks ago, we discussed the concept of "Skip-lagging," buying an airline ticket, knowing you weren't going to travel to the final destination, throwing part of the ticket away, in order to take advantage of the strange way airlines price tickets. We warned you at the time the airlines don't consider it cool, and indeed now American Airlines is suing an online company which helps people commit the "Skip-lagging" offense. We have an update. The battle against resort and other bogus fees hoisted on travelers continues. Charlie Leocha from Travelers United joins to update us on state and national legislation. We've talked about air tags on the program more than once, but we're still pounding the table. This week, another story from a lady who ignored United when they told her they couldn't find her luggage. She knew where it was from the AirTag ping, so she went and got it. Time to put one of these gadgets in your bag? In Europe, you can now make phone calls in flight. Could that policy change be coming to the US? How will airline passenger feel about adding to the cacophony on planes? If you are renting a car to travel long distance, is it cheaper to rent an electric car? How about for around town? The answer is, it depends.
