On the Sunday, June 21st, 2020 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, ocean going cruises have been canceled through September 30.  Except one cruise line says they are sailing to Alaska in September.  Starting September 1st. Except Alaska has a 14-day quarantine.  So who is right? Airlines have found a way to get everyone to mask up on board.  No mask, you don't fly.  Not just today, you don't fly on that airline again EVER.  And it's working... It's our outdoors show, as we give you tips on what camping is like in the age of COVID, how you can rent an RV and take the Great American Road trip.  Did you know you can get your RV DELIVERED to the campground?  That's what we are talkin' about.... We are the Travel AND entertainment guys...and we have a special treat.  A former member of the band Chicago has co-written a great song perfect for Covid times.  It makes its Sacramento debut on our show!  "Everything is Gonna Work Out Fine."
On the Sunday, May 10, 2020, Mothers Day edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, Delta drops 10 cities from its route map, Norwegian Cruise Line raises $2 billion to help avoid bankruptcy and Frontier Airlines gives the Sleazy Airline Award of the Year for offering to "sell" you the middle seat for $39.  That's the same middle seat that likely would have been empty.  Oh, and did they mention they were going to sell that same empty seat to both the window and aisle passengers?  Makes you want to run right out and buy a ticket on Frontier.  What nice people they are... Travelers United is an organization which advocates for travelers, mostly in the Washington, DC, arena.  We invited Charlie Leocha, President and Co-founder, to talk with us about airline refund policies and other virus-related traveler questions. Since it's Mother's Day, we invite you to call in and share your favorite story of travel with mom.  Your mom, someone else's mom, the lady who cared for you like a mother, your in-law.  Whomever you see as mom, share that once in a lifetime trip you took. A small plaque remembering Travel Guys co-host Mark Hoffmann’s mom can be seen in Capital Park’s Rose Garden.
On the Thursday, March 12th, 2020 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, Covid-19 updates of all kinds, as airlines continue to cut schedules down to a bare minimum and cruise lines are grounded for an extended period.  When times are tough, Doubletree Hotels steps up its game.  That means releasing the recipe to those signature chocolate chip cookies they give out at check in at their hotels. You can find the recipe here. A lot of travelers have been seeking refunds in recent weeks.  Cruises, flights, vacations, tours, Airbnb, all canceled.  Huge losses for many.  So which of those losses fall to the traveler and which to the suppliers?  Should you take a voucher or insist on cash?  Road Warriors have been waiting for the updates on airline and hotel programs and we have a complete update. Ed Perkins, long-time travel advocate and journalist, is the perfect man to talk to about the current travel situation.  Ed has been in the industry for a long time and his experience will serve us well as he looks into the Covid-19 future of travel. Restaurants across the country have taken a huge hit as "stay at home" orders are enforced.  Local eateries are no exception.  Tom has short updates from two popular places offering dining options and Clayton Whitehead offers us the perspective from downtown.
On the Sunday, March 1st, 2020 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, airlines and hotels are allowing cancellations to a growing number of international destinations because of the Corona Virus.  Check with your airline or hotel for an update.  Remember, only selected international destinations are impacted.  Alaska and American Airlines are back in bed together again.  You can earn miles for one while flying the other, redeem awards, etc.  This comes only months after the two airlines announced they were ending their relationship... In our Smarter Traveler segment, Mark explains when an airline owes you a hotel room for a canceled flight (hint, the answer isn't what you think), and are ride shares really cheaper than taxis?  Evidence seems to point in the opposite direction. The second half of the show is dedicated to a roundtable discussion about the Corona Virus.  Travel Advisor Gwen Duncan and Reporter Clayton Whitehead join us for a lively discussion about travel insurance, whether or not it's safe to travel, etc.  The phone lines are 916-921-1530 and 800-834-1530 will be open for your calls.
