Our Smarter Traveler segment focuses on cruise ships. They are trying to get back into the water soon, and making some big promises about testing passengers and crew. Can they keep those promises. Ned Levi from Travelers United reports for us. The underwriter of our program, local tour operator Sports Leisure Vacations, held a Tour Preview Day and rolled out a 2021 catalog yesterday. Halloween was yesterday, so interest in ghosts and interest in ghost hunts and the paranormal is at its annual high. Tom caught up with Dave Schrader last week. Dave is promoting SEASON TWO of "THE HOLZER FILES," which airs on The Travel Channel, Thursday nights at 11pm/ET/PT. In our Smarter Traveler segment, with Clayton Whitehead sitting in for Tom, we talk about attire on cruise ships - is the "formal night" officially gone; whether or not airline clubs are worth their not-so-cheap membership fees, and the importance of having the right expectations when you travel, about everything from security to seating on the plane and local customs. The ride service, GoGoGrandparent was first featured on the show over a year ago.  It's Uber/Lyft for mature folks and can be summoned with a phone call.  We get an update on their services. In the Travel News, things have come 180 in terms of travel to Cuba, as the U.S. State Department issues a warning telling Americans to be extra careful if you are headed to Cuba anytime soon. The Florida Keys officially reopened to tourists last week, and good news from Puerto Rico, as the first cruise ships will return next month. Plus, another Indian tour operator has dropped elephant rides from their itineraries and we'll tell you why. In our Smarter Traveler segment, realizing that in Sacramento we don't have as many non-stop destinations as travelers in San Francisco or Los Angeles, we discuss what is the right amount of time to allow for a layover between flights in an airport. Many of us have to connect to get to most destinations, so layovers are a science with some frequent Sacramento travelers. We'll share some of that wisdom.
