On the Saturday, October 26th, 2024 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, Disney is growing its cruise ship fleet from 5 to 13 ships in the next 7 years, and Alaska Airlines has a 4-state fly pass, but we say buyer beware. Our Smarter Traveler segment highlights a taxi ride Mark took in downtown Detroit last week, and really he was taken. $25 for a 2-mile ride. We explain how to avoid getting yourself in a similar situation. Did he really pay $25 for a 2-mile ride? He did. Each year, a small group of local folks, led by the Stocking family, raise a big chunk of cash to make sure those who are gone are not forgotten, by placing boughs on the 35,000 military graves at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery. Case in point, American Airlines is cutting hundreds of call center positions that handle travel issues and complaints. And telling us it's going to make American BETTER. Can you say BS? Our Odds and Ends segment features stories about how travel companies are collecting your private information to create pricing, hidden cameras in vacation rentals and why you might need a special class to learn how to negotiate a Disney theme park. Charlie Leocha from Travelers United joins us to talk about the crowd coming in the skies. Charlie says flying cars, drones and other traffic is about to compete with airplanes and it's time to consider some regulations. Crazy? Maybe not.
On the Sunday, October 30th, 2022 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, Holland America rewards a service dog for 700 days of cruising and Virgin America has decided to reward those siting in the middle seat with some great rewards. In our Smarter Traveler segment, Mark talks about the president addressing junk travel fees this past week. Mark says it's great that the president recognizes that travel suppliers are goosing travelers in unfair ways. He also says it's one thing to say something about bogus fees, it's another thing entirely to actually DO SOMETHING about them. Good luck Mr. President. All of us travelers are rooting for you.
