On the Sunday, February 20th, 2022 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, if you are interested in buying an unfinished cruise ship, Getting Hong Kong, the parent company of “out of business” Crystal Cruises, has one for sale. The Global Dream, is still under construction in a German shipyard. If it is finished, it will hold 9,500 of your closest friends. The federal mask mandate will expire on March 18th. Will it be dropped, extended briefly, or given a longer extension? In our Smarter Traveler segment, we talk about buying tickets from “secondary-sellers” and what some of the unseen risks are in buying tickets on the open market. Mark escorted a dozen or so tours each year for his company, Sports Leisure Vacations. One of his favorite destinations is Hawaii, and he has a trip going in May to Maui and Kauai. He’ll share some of the highlights and tell you how you can join the small group if you wish. Theater is back on stage again in San Francisco. Our own Clayton Whitehead saw the premiere of another traveling Broadway show in San Francisco last week about Harry Potter and his gang and shares a review.

Those shortages are likely to impact holiday travel. China has started a national parks system. Their beloved pandas are high on the initial protected list. Our show is live from the island of Kauai this week. In our Smarter Traveler segment, Mark takes the pulse of Hawaii, and shares that it leans heavily towards masks and vaccinations. Indoors, outdoors, if you are headed to Hawaii, you'll want to be vaccinated and be willing to take a "we are all in it together approach." Mark continues the Hawaiian theme, with his observations regarding activities and service in the islands. The spirit of Aloha is alive, and boy is this a good time for it. The Trans-Siberian Orchestra will once again present their Christmas concert in Sacramento. Tom joins the show's producer for a quick update.

Our Smarter Traveler segment talks about United Airlines extension of many travel credits/vouchers, and an update on the Southwest meltdown from last week. Ed Perkins, travel journalist and advocate for travelers, talks to us about the fight against resort fees. Turns out Ed was the first to write about the evils of the fees when they first reared their heads three decades go. Reporter Clayton Whitehead attended the new show Dear San Francisco: A Love Story, at the Club Fugazi in San Francisco last week. This new show replaces the long-running Beach Blanket Babylon.
On the Sunday, September 5th, 2021 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, Maui has joined Oahu in creating a program which insures travelers who enter restaurants, and other indoor venues, have proof of vaccination, either through a unique program on your phone or by presenting a vaccination card. The Queen Mary, which has been enjoying retirement in Long Beach for the past 50 or so years, may be done as a tourist attraction. Plus, United Airlines has made a major concession on ticket credits. The price of a cruise is often way more than what you paid before you boarded. The cruise lines have set up a gauntlet of ways to extract money from you. We'll talk about some of them and perhaps you can make your own plan to cut the cruise lines profits next time you sail. Mark says the travel industry has experienced an upswing in "I thought things would be better so I booked, but now I want to cancel at the last minute and not be charged anything" calls. He has some strong words for travelers who aren't big on taking responsibility for their decisions. In our final segment, we put on our entertainment hats as Tom interviews MARC D'ANTONIO who is featured in the DISCOVERY+ show, "SHOCK DOCS – ALIEN INVASION: HUDSON VALLEY" (which began streaming on Monday, August 16th).
