On the Saturday, April 12th, 2025 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, Southwest will start retrofitting cabins in two weeks, creating extra leg room seating; and an ill-advised new bill would change the drinking deadline from 2 to 4am in some cities around our state. (What a great idea, even drunker people on the road in the wee hours of the morning.) Our Smarter Traveler segment takes a break this week in favor of a commentary, Just One Man's Opinion, which addresses the ongoing erasure of our American history, something treasured by travelers from all over the world. The REAL ID deadline is less than a month away. If you are traveling by air after May 7th, and don't have a current passport, this could be important to you. We walk you through the application process, and tell you how to know if you already have a REAL ID. We have also posted a link to the application process. Our Odds and Ends portion of the program addresses the sudden lack of international visitors coming and going to the US of A and what the impact might be on businesses.

On the Sunday, August 1st, 2021 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, Canada will open to US visitors on August 9th, but the US won't open to Canadians (and perhaps people returning from Canada) until August 21st at the earliest. Is it just us, or is something wrong with the way the dates (don't) line up? Delta has promised its frequent flyers their status will be preserved into 2022 and a report says the price of an Uber ride has gone up 9% in just the last 18 months. Our Smarter Traveler segment focuses on bogus smoking and other "after you've left" charges at hotels and how to avoid them. Hint: One piece of advice involves debit cards. Steve LaRosa is back after a long absence with a new version of What's Goin' On (Around Sacramento). Steve has a couple of outdoor ideas and a reminder that the Cruise Fest is coming back to Fulton Avenue soon. Mark has a Just One Man's Opinion commentary about those who have chosen not to be vaccinated, and what it's doing to the travel and hospitality industry. The guys wrap up with a discussion about how to avoid weather related summer travel delays.

On the Sunday, April 25th, 2021 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, airlines are expanding summer flight schedules to meet growing travel demand and Hawaii reports hotel numbers are going up each month. Sadly, the Hotel Pennsylvania, the New York Hotel whose phone number, Pennsylvania 6-5,000, became a hit for Glenn Miller, is likely to stay closed. It shut down during the pandemic and its owner wants to demolish the hotel and turn it into a mixed-use tower, something it has been trying to do for nearly 20 years. In our Smarter Traveler segment, we introduce you to CLEAR, a better way to get through security lines at airports. CLEAR arrived in Sacramento in March and we have Mitch Nadler from the company with us to explain how it works, how much is costs and how you can join. In Mark's Just One Man's Opinion piece, he warns us that fuel surcharges are coming to travel very soon, and why on some level, the charges are legit. The second half of the show is for your input on the restart of travel. On the Sunday, February 7th Super Bowl Sunday edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, Canada says no cruise ship calls at its ports in 2021. Does this mean an old US law threatens the Alaska summer cruise season? Reminder: If you are picking up someone at an airport, train or bus station, you will need a mask in the lobby. The fine is $1,500 and apparently it’s going to be enforced. A survey by leading travel risk and crisis responder Global Rescue says traveler concerns will drop dramatically this summer as more COVID vaccinations are completed. 77% of responders say they are less concerned about traveling during the second half of the year. Our Smarter Traveler segment discusses vaccines vs. travel. This week, three cruise lines announced they will require vaccines to board their ships. We have an update. Tour professional and Road Reporter Clayton Whitehead joins a travel roundtable in the back half of the program. Clayton is a lifetime travel industry veteran and has some thoughts on how and when travel returns and what it looks like. Mark offers one of his Just One Man's Opinion commentaries on a subject that is only marginally related to travel, but is something he has noticed during COVID, and it (humorously) alarms him.
