On the Saturday, November 18th Thanksgiving Travel edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, Carnival bans a passenger for life for bringing gummies on board, and Lyft is offering an on time promise for holiday season rides. Holiday Travel means a lot of differences at the airport. Full parking lots, longer check-in and security lines, unfamiliar travelers to fight through; just to name a few. In our Smarter Traveler segment we do our best to help you navigate Sacramento and other airports this holiday season. Getting through security is a major part of the airport experience. Our friends from TSA Sacramento, Dale and Syd, give you important information to help that process. Their number one tip: Make sure the bag you are packing is empty when you start packing. A simple tip, but as our conversation proved, an important one. If the plane is overbooked and they start looking for volunteers to sell their seat for a price, should you take the offer? Mark has a short list to check off before you take a seemingly great offer.

On the Sunday, October 24th, 2021 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, hotel occupancy in the US hits a post-COVID high over Columbus Day weekend, and the White House says the vaccine mandate won't get in the way of holiday travel. Hotel taxes are climbing in Hawaii, Lyft finally shares a report on sexual assaults. Maybe we should have seen these numbers earlier. Our Smarter Traveler segment takes a look at on board airline etiquette. Perhaps we could agree to treat EACH OTHER in a more upbeat fashion when we fly. Mark and Tom have some suggestions. Tipping is sort of a personal thing. There are lots of different opinions. We have a "Tipping Test" to let you know if you are up-to-date on tipping customs in the United States. On the Sunday, March 1st, 2020 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, airlines and hotels are allowing cancellations to a growing number of international destinations because of the Corona Virus.  Check with your airline or hotel for an update.  Remember, only selected international destinations are impacted.  Alaska and American Airlines are back in bed together again.  You can earn miles for one while flying the other, redeem awards, etc.  This comes only months after the two airlines announced they were ending their relationship... In our Smarter Traveler segment, Mark explains when an airline owes you a hotel room for a canceled flight (hint, the answer isn't what you think), and are ride shares really cheaper than taxis?  Evidence seems to point in the opposite direction. On the Sunday, April 7th, 2019 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, United has become the latest airline to blow up its award ticket chart.  United claims some routes, shorter routes at non-peak times, will go down in price.  But there will be no cap, and seats to popular destinations at peak times are going to coast a LOT more points.  And you will never know how many.  A serious downgrade of their Mileage Plus program.  Airbnb is under fire after a vacationing family found a live streaming camera in a Cork, Ireland home.  It was disguised as a smoke alarm.  The husband is an information technology security specialist and he found the camera.  Airbnb has been slow to comment.  Their rules prohibit any kind of hidden cameras for any reason. Recently a young South Carolina woman was found murdered after waiting for a ride share.  In our Smarter Traveler segment, we talk about how to be safe when ride sharing.  This woman may have met with foul play unrelated to her ride share, but knowing some basic tips will keep you safe and make it harder for your ride to go wrong. Two call in guests on the program - Matthew Felix wrote a book called Porcelain Travels, focusing on adventures involving porcelain...use your imagination.  It's light and fun and the stories are truly unique.  Rob Palmer claims to be the world's first travel blogger.  He made a living at it long before many of the current bloggers were born.
