On the Sunday, February 14th Valentine's Day edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, after meetings at the White House, officials on both sides say there is little interest in restricting domestic air travel. Disneyland is reopening its California Adventure Park in southern California. But wait, no rides? Entertainment, shops and restaurants only? "A limited-time ticketed experience," Disney is calling it. Starts March 12th. We share the history of Valentine's Day, and why it has a special significance in Oregon in our Smarter Traveler segment. The Charles Shulz Museum in Santa Rosa is a monument to the creator of Peanuts. They are offering an online exhibition called Hidden Treasures, and the museum curator joins us to talk about it. San Francisco is hosting a cool cultural arts exhibition, a unique floor to ceiling video display of some of Van Gogh's most unique works. It's cultural arts for people who aren't into such a thing. On the Sunday, May 5th edition of The Travel Guys.... In The Travel News, Marriott is going into the hotel rental business, aka Airbnb. Believe it or not, the same week Marriott makes that announcement, Airbnb announces they are going into the hotel business. Coincidence? We think not. The SAP Arena in San Jose has announced they are joining the growing ranks of public venues adopting a Clear Bag Policy. Basically, it means any bag you bring into the arena has to meet very specific size requirement and it must be clear. To begin with, the arena is offering a $5 bag check if yours doesn't meet the requirements. San Jose isn't the first and we suspect this will quickly become the standard. Most people remember to lock the deadbolt (you DO remember that, right...), check window locks on ground floor rooms and even connecting room locks. On the Sunday, February 17th, 2019 edition of The Travel Guys… Steve LaRosa is in for Tom Romano and joins Mark in the studio. In the Travel News, United Airlines is offering TV for free. That's on the 211 aircraft which have the in seat back screens. Previously there was a charge, but now you can watch the screens or on your own device for free. Southwest Airlines has declared a "operational emergency." It appears a combination of having to pull aircraft out of service for FAA mandated repairs and a "sick out" by technicians who have been negotiating a new contract for SIX years has left the airline short of planes. The U.S. has issued travel warnings for Turkey and Haiti. In the Smarter Traveler segment, Mark reminds travelers the Marriott Rewards program officially becomes Bonvoy the first week of March. There is a new VERY high point redemption level for top properties. If you are planning to use your Marriott points for something this year, booking it now might mean you burn fewer points. A reminder that the cancellation time for a hotel is local time could make a difference, particularly on overseas lodging.
