On the Sunday, June 11th, 2023 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, Southwest Airlines extends its schedule into January, a local congressman offers his office's help in getting your passport and soon it will cost you a toll to drive in mid and downtown Manhattan. One of Mark's staff recently had a suitcase lost by United Airlines. We talk about the "lost bag" experience, and give you some tips on what to do if it happens to you in our Smarter Traveler portion of the show. Trip Advisor is deleting some reviews, and has a strange way of justifying it. We talk a little about the value (or lack of value) of online reviews. A list is out of which US airport are the most and least expensive to fly out of. Sacramento isn't on either list, but is on another list that isn't such good news for local flyers. On the Sunday, March 26th, 2023 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, The Netherlands airport is cutting the number of flights it handles daily, in an effort to help global warming. An off duty pilot helps in an emergency on board a Southwest plane, and American Airlines wants its flight attendants to be in uniform when on duty. Once again we have a story about a passenger leaving something on a plane and having that item turn up in the possession of an airline employee or contractor. Our Smarter Traveler segment discusses the idea of putting air tags in your bags and on other important personal items to protect against theft. Clayton Whitehead is head of International Travel at Sports Leisure Vacations. Like US destinations last year, popular international spots are experiencing a post-COVID boom. We talk to Clayton about the return on international travel and what he sees looking forward. Will the boom continue? Mark has an edition of the Weird Travel News, with stories highlighting a weirdly shaped shrub in Portland and why some travelers are nicknamed "gate lice" by airline employees.

On the Sunday, February 12th, 2023 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, we preview the travel commercials from the Super Bowl broadcast (including one where United takes a not-so-subtle jab at Southwest) and tell you the number one place in the country to take your sweetheart on Valentine's Day. In the State of the Union address, the President mentioned the Junk Fees Prevention Act. Does it have a chance of passing? Could resort fees actually go away? We discuss in our Smarter Traveler segment. When your flight is canceled or delayed, or you arrive at your destination and your checked baggage doesn't arrive with you, what are your rights? Charlie Leocha of Travelers United gives us a run down. What the safest place to sit on a plane, in the event of a crash landing? Not a fun subject, but definitely an interesting answer. Hint - not the most desirable seats on the plane.

On the Sunday, January 15th, 2023 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, airline computers melted down again last week, briefly impacting the entire system. How can things like this be avoided? The answer, just like the Southwest situation a couple of weeks ago, isn't simple. Fixing it will take time, as in years. In other news, Amtrak is having a sale on mid-week travel and airfares dropped in December, reversing a trend. Our Smarter Traveler segment features an interview with a TSA executive - we talked about signing up to pre-check, how you can get a job with TSA and some of the weird things that people try to bring on airplanes. Mark is hosting two baseball tours this spring. The first is to Spring Training in Arizona, March 9-13. It highlights 5 Cactus League games featuring the Giants. The second is Baseball's Fields of Dreams, which is offered May 26 - June 4. Stops include the Negro Leagues Hall of Fame in Kansas City, the Field of Dreams in Iowa, Wrigley Field in Chicago, The Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, and Yankee Stadium and the Jackie Robinson Museum in New York City. Four seats remain on each trip. Steve LaRosa, who offers our popular "What Goin' On" reports, is back and this time he's headed up the California Coast.
