Our Smarter Traveler segment has two big topics: A reminder on the grace period for canceling an airline ticket without any charge, and a word of warning regarding internet searches and "sponsored" links. Warnings are popping up for spring break travelers, particularly if you are heading out of the country. We have an expert to talk about different ways you can protect yourself and still have fun. 50 States, 1000 Eats is the National Geographic book. Author Joe Yogerst joins us to talk about his favorites. Then the conversation shifted to restaurant tipping, and boy did Joe have some strong opinions.

Amsterdam taking steps to improve quality of the visitor experience

On the Sunday, April 2nd, 2023 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, Amsterdam (The Netherlands) says enough is enough, and talks about taking steps to improve the quality of the visitor experience. That could mean some changes to the city's red light district. A new study shows the complaints about airline refunds are up ten-fold compared to pre-COVID numbers. Mark has some thoughts on why that that could be happening. With so many people traveling, especially during spring break, and many hotels, restaurants and attractions short of help, tempers can flare. In our Smarter Traveler segment, we talk about how to reverse that trend. Right now on the road, a little kindness goes a long way. Mark spent the week on the road, in two uniquely different locations. He shares a little about his time, first in Cheyenne, Wyoming; then in Honolulu. From Cowboys to Aloha, Mark has some tips for you if you are heading to either destination sometime soon. Spring breakers head to Florida in record numbers

On the Sunday, March 20th, 2022 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, spring breakers are headed to Florida in record numbers as leisure travel rebounds to pre-COVID levels. Business travel, however, continues to lag. This is a problem for hotels in particular, because business travelers pay higher rates, and spend more in the hotel on food and beverage than leisure travelers. In our Smarter Traveler segment, we talked about the importance of reading ALL the information in those special offers which are out there right now. "Cancel without penalty until 48 hours of departure," etc. Many of these "deals" have exceptions in them you could drive a cruise ship through. Road Reporter Scott Angeletti checks in to tell us about two fabulous recent adventures to Alaska and Yellowstone Park. Who goes there in the middle of winter? Scott does, and he has quite the story to tell. Finally, Mark takes a look at travel companies and the Russian war with Ukraine. Some are shutting down operations, but some are only "stopping development." Mark explains the difference and has some harsh words for those playing the word game.
