On the Sunday, November 7th, 2021 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, travel is on the rebound, but there is still a serious shortage of staff in many places. Those shortages are likely to impact holiday travel. China has started a national parks system. Their beloved pandas are high on the initial protected list. Our show is live from the island of Kauai this week. In our Smarter Traveler segment, Mark takes the pulse of Hawaii, and shares that it leans heavily towards masks and vaccinations. Indoors, outdoors, if you are headed to Hawaii, you'll want to be vaccinated and be willing to take a "we are all in it together approach." Mark continues the Hawaiian theme, with his observations regarding activities and service in the islands. The spirit of Aloha is alive, and boy is this a good time for it. The Trans-Siberian Orchestra will once again present their Christmas concert in Sacramento. Tom joins the show's producer for a quick update.

On the Sunday, October 24th, 2021 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, hotel occupancy in the US hits a post-COVID high over Columbus Day weekend, and the White House says the vaccine mandate won't get in the way of holiday travel. Hotel taxes are climbing in Hawaii, Lyft finally shares a report on sexual assaults. Maybe we should have seen these numbers earlier. Our Smarter Traveler segment takes a look at on board airline etiquette. Perhaps we could agree to treat EACH OTHER in a more upbeat fashion when we fly. Mark and Tom have some suggestions. Tipping is sort of a personal thing. There are lots of different opinions. We have a "Tipping Test" to let you know if you are up-to-date on tipping customs in the United States. On the Sunday, October 25th, 2020 edition of The Travel Guys… In the Travel News, There aren't nearly as many flights, but airfares for Christmas/New Year's are down 20-30% because of Covid. But you need to consider buying your ticket soon. And it appears Carnival Cruise Lines faces more than just the virus as an obstacle to getting cruise lovers back at sea. Seems Carnival has a stack of environmental violations in recent years, including a rumor some of their ships have a secret pipe system, allowing ships to dump sewage and other waste in the ocean, without being detected. US officials want to inspect the ships and make sure the cruise line is using environmentally sound practices. Sounds like a story worth following. Our Smarter Traveler segment features Tom and Mark discussing Southwest's announcement last week that they will no longer block the middle seat on flights, starting December 1st. Tom has been very conservative with his travels, and Mark travels for a living. Two very different angles. The second half of the program offers a special Cooking Class with Paulette Bruce. Mark joins Paulette in her home for the broadcast, with two dozen listeners also watching the simulcast on Zoom! at the same time. Paulette with be preparing an appetizer and a side dish you can use for your Thanksgiving table.
